The importance of self love – this is a subject very close to my heart. I recorded the video below in 2017, it was the very first video I EVER did.
For ANYONE struggling with Self Love please watch it!!
I watch this now and can’t believe how far I have come on my journey.
Focusing on loving yourself is not ego-driven, narcissistic, or selfish.
It’s NECESSARY!
As women (and men) we are all too quick to put self care at the back of the queue in life.
We prioritise everything before ourselves – kids, work, cleaning the house, general day-to-day life.
And don’t even talk to me about the mum guilt!!!!!!
All of the above leaves us with an empty cup, and you have all heard the saying you cant give from an empty cup, you cant overflow onto others when you have nothing left to give.
It all Starts with Self Love
I really want to reiterate the importance of self love.
Self love is one of the hardest things to master BUT when we learn to love ourselves it impacts literally everything in our lives.
We become instantly more positive, more grateful, kinder, more soft around the edges, patient, loving……..the list goes on.
A person who practices self-love will always have a happier more empowered life, the thoughts we think literally create our reality, you will have heard me say this many times before but our thoughts impact our day to day feelings, which lead to our behaviours, which lead to our choices, which lead to experiences.
The Impact of Cortisol
When you live with an empty cup, when you are stress driven and don’t take care of yourself you make more cortisol in your body.
Cortisol is a natural fight or flight hormone, its the way your body keeps you safe.
When we are always striving to do more, be more, have more we set unrealistic expectations.
When we don’t meet those expectations we live more and more in stress.
The problem with this however is that we then live off cortisol all the time, for women adrenal fatigue sets in, for men it can be even worse as they have the added pressure of for the most part being the main breadwinner for the entire family.
Too many people are living in fear which triggers anxiety, depression, just a sense of lack.
Breaking the Cycle
The way to break this cycle is by learning to love yourself, being kinder to yourself, being softer – simply put, to put yourself first.
There is a reason why they tell you on an airplane to put on your own lifejacket first.
Self love reduces cortisol and the fight or flight response.
Giving you the ability to fill your own cup which leads to a positive mindset, which is essential to our mental wellbeing.
People who love themselves first and foremost are far less likely to suffer from anxiety and depression..
Self love also encourages good, healthy habits which in turn means a better standard of living in both your body and your mind.
What Actually is Self Love Anyway?
Self love means loving everything about yourself – your BODY (thats a big one), mind and soul.
So put yourself a little higher on your priority list.
You deserve it and if you cant do it by yourself let me help you, this is my absolute speciality.
